John Alden, immigrant ancestor, came to Plymouth, Massachusetts on the ship "Mayflower." He was the 7th signer of the Mayflower Compact, and he outlived all of those who signed this document with him. In 1643, he served in the Duxbury Company, of which Myles Standish was the Captain. He was appointed Assistant to the Governor of the Colony, serving from 1632 to 1640, again in 1650, and once more in 1686. He was Deputy to the General Court in the years 1641, 1642, 1644, and 1649. And in 1641 and following years he was a member of the Council of War. From 1664 to 1667 he was Acting Deputy Governor. By trade he was a cooper. (George H. Smith, Goss Ancestry)
